Lagundi clinical trials, aprubado na ng FDA bilang supplemental treatment sa COVID-19

Inaprubahan na ng Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ng Pilipinas, ang clinical trials ng Lagundi bilang supplemental treatment para sa bawat indibidwal na infected ng coronavirus o COVID-19, ayon kay Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato dela Peña.


"'Yun pong sa lagundi, ang good news po ay naaprubahan na ng FDA ang clinical trials. Ito lang early this week naaprubahan," sabi ni Dela Peña sa public briefing ng Laging Handa.


Isasagawa ang clinical trials ng lagundi ng mga Philippine General Hospital (PGH) personnel, sa quarantine center ng Quezon Institute sa Santa Ana Hospital, at sa Philippine National Police-NCR community quarantine center.


Ayon kay Dela Peña, ang trials ay ia-administer sa mga pasyenteng may mild cases.


"Ang hangad natin diyan ay ma-address 'yung symptoms na katulad ng ubo, lagnat at mga sore throat. Kasi malaking bagay kung giginhawa ang ating pasyente na may cases diyan sa symptoms na 'yan," sabi ni Dela Peña.


"At titingnan din natin kung bababa ba 'yung probability na mag-progress sila into moderate and severe cases kung bibigyan ng gamot na lagundi," dagdag pa niya.


Samantala, naghihintay rin ng approval para sa clinical trials ang tawa-tawa mula sa FDA.


Gayundin, ayon kay Dela Peña, ang in vitro trials ng bansa na lauric acid, kung saan nagmula sa virgin coconut oil at iba pang katulad nito, gaya ng Monolaurin, ay sinusuri na sa abroad.


"So far po ang finding, merong modest, shall we say reduction ng infectivity ng ating SARS-CoV-2 with the use of lauric acid and Monolaurin," ani Dela Peña.


"Dahil po doon, kahit modest lang 'yung reduction, it still justifies our experiments or clinical trials involving VCO against COVID-19. Kasi kahit na modest, nakaka-reduce pa rin sila ng infectivity," ayon kay Dela Peña.
