Matatapos na ang mahigit anim na taong zero-cost payments sa India matapos ipataw ang 0.4% fee sa UPI transactions na lampas sa 2,000 rupees (P1,300) simula Oktubre 15.


Ayon sa National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), hindi maaaring ipasa sa mga consumer ang bagong Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). Layunin nitong pondohan ang cybersecurity, fraud prevention, infrastructure at customer service ng payment system.


May flat fee na 5 rupees (P3) para sa ilang merchant transactions gaya ng railway, telecom, insurance at fuel. Para sa ibang merchants, capped sa 300 rupees (P196) ang fee sa transactions na lampas sa 75,000 rupees. (P49K)


Exempted naman ang small merchants na tumatanggap ng hanggang 100,000 rupees (P65K) kada buwan sa QR payments. Wala ring fee sa UPI QR transactions sa rural at semi-urban areas.


Samantala, 0.02% ang fee sa capital market payments gaya ng mutual funds at stock investments, capped sa 300 rupees (P196).


Umabot sa 24 bilyong transactions na nagkakahalaga ng $311 bilyon (P19T) ang UPI noong Agosto, na pangunahing ginagamit sa India sa pamamagitan ng apps gaya ng PhonePe at Google Pay.


Iginiit ng gobyerno na bawal ang hidden o platform fees at dapat tiyaking hindi sisingilin sa consumers ang MDR.
