Gilas Women rankings, umangat; Ateneo, ginitla ang SSC sa V-League

Tumaas sa 39th place ang FIBA World rankings ng Gilas Pilipinas Women.


Nanatili naman ang China bilang top team sa Asia at pumapangalawa sa buong mundo matapos na mag-silver medal finish sa 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup na ginanap sa Sydney. Nakuha ng Australia ang 3rd spot sa ranking, sinundan ng Japan sa pang-siyam, Korea nasa ika-12, New Zealand na 29 na puwesto, at ang Chinese Taipei sa 33rd. Hawak ng Olympic champion at World Cup gold medalist na US ay ang top rankings.


Samantala, matikas ang bukas ng kampanya ng Ateneo de Manila University sa V-League Women's Collegiate Challenge nang talunin ang San Sebastian College, 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 kahapon sa Paco Arena, Manila.


Umiskor si Faith Nisperos ng 18 points sa bisa ng 11 kills, six aces at block, para sa second set ng Pool A match-up ng Ateneo. Nakapag-ambag si Vanie Gandler ng 14 points habang sina Lyann de Guzman at Joan Narit ay may tig-10 at 8 points.


"We still have to polish many things. Baste (San Sebastian) is a very good team, lumamang lang kami ng konti sa rotation ng tao," ayon kay Blue Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro.


"But we are preparing for bigger games, not just in the V-League but also in the UAAP. So, we really need to work on so many things."


Bumanat si Kristine Dionisio ng 12 points habang sina Tina Marasigan at Kamille Tan ay may tig-seven points apiece sa Lady Stags na haharapin sa susunod ang Adamson University.
