Nagpahayag ng pakikidalamhati ang United States sa Pilipinas matapos na isang C-130 military plane ang bumagsak sa Sulu kahapon, Linggo.
“On behalf of the United States, I offer our deep condolences to the people of the Philippines regarding the tragic plane crash in which several dozen service members were killed,” ani US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan sa isang statement.
“Our thoughts are with those who were injured and the families of those who were lost,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi rin ni Sullivan, handang magbigay ang Amerika ng kanilang suporta sa Pilipinas kapag nangailangan lalo na sa tinatawag na disaster response.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with our Philippine allies at this difficult time and are ready to provide all appropriate support to the Philippines’ response effort,” saad ni Sullivan.
Samantala, ayon sa Armed Forces spokesperson na si Major General Edgard Arevalo, nasa 50 indibidwal na ang nasawi sa pagbagsak ng isang Philippine Air Force C-130 plane kahapon. Kabilang dito ang 47 sundalo na lulan ng naturang eroplano, habang tatlo ay sibilyan.
Nasa 49 iba pang sundalo ang nasagip at naisugod sa ospital na patuloy na ginagamot.
Ang C-130 na may tail number 5125 ay lumipad mula sa Lumbia Airport sa Cagayan de Oro City at nakatakda sanang lumapag sa Jolo Port sa Sulu nang bumagsak ito bandang alas-11:30 ng umaga kahapon.
Gayunman, agad namang naglabas ng direktiba si Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na magsagawa ng “full investigation” hinggil sa insidente.
Ayon naman kay Chargé d’Affaires John Law, ang US Embassy in Manila ay magpapadala ng medical aid para sa mga survivors ng bumagsak na eroplano.
