Kitang-kitang ang glow sa mga mata ni Prince of Ballad Gerald Santos nu’ng makausap namin sa intimate tsikahan with him para sa nalalapit niyang konsiyerto sa Music Museum in June 29, Saturday titled Gerald Santos, Grateful!
Ang Grateful concert ni Gerald ay bilang selebrasyon para sa kanyang 18 taon sa entertainment scene.
Until it was revealed by Gerald himself the reasons ng makislap niyang mga mata at magandang aura niya ngayon.
First, of course, dahil sa excitement sa kanyang 18th anniversary concert.
Pahayag ni Gerald, “Alam naman natin na hindi talaga madali ‘yung mag-strive and i-maintain ang iyong career dito sa industry natin. So, I’m just thankful talaga.
“It’s basically about my whole journey sa career ko. We’re gonna start ‘yun nga, sa Pinoy Pop Superstar. Tapos, may mga original songs ako na kakantahin. ‘Yung mga compositions ko during the last 18 years.
“Tapos, ‘yung mga upcoming na songs na ire-release. And of course, hindi mawawala ‘yung mga Broadway musicals na mga kanta. Tapos, pop songs. ‘Yung mga current songs ngayon.
“It will focus doon sa journey ko. Tapos, ‘yung mga special guests ko na sina Ogie Alcasid, Rita Daniela and Mr. Rey Valera. Kakantahin namin ‘yung mga songs nila and it’s a big opportunity for me na kantahin ang mga hit songs nila.”
Four years after his last major concert sa Resorts World Manila in 2019, ngayon lang ulit magko-concert si Gerald.
He was busy doing major theater projects before, during and after the pandemic. Ginawa niya ang major role sa Atlantis' production titled Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street bilang si Anthony Hope alongside Filipino theater legend Lea Salonga just before the pandemic.
Ginampanan din niya ang lead role as Doc Willie Ong sa bio-musical nito na I WILL: The Musical during the pandemic. Pagkatapos ay muli siyang gumanap bilang si Thuy in the Denmark production of Miss Saigon and in Danish language right after the pandemic and the international borders opened.
In between these theater roles, nakagawa pa ng tatlong pelikula si Gerald, ang Deception with Claudine Barretto, Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told at Oras de Peligro directed by Joel Lamangan.
He is also a recipient ng Aliw Awards Entertainer of the Year recognition and not just once but twice.
And on June 29, he is back to what he does best which is performing live.
Bukod sa excitement, special din ang gabi ng kanyang concert that his non-showbiz girlfriend will be sitting sa harap ng stage para panoorin siya.
“Her name is Grace and we met in New York. We’ve been together since July last year,” pagre-reveal ni Gerald.
Going strong daw ang relasyon nila ni Grace and looking forward siya sa future kasama ang kanyang US-based GF.
“Yes, may mga ganoon na napapag-usapan. Kasi ako, hindi na rin naman ako bumabata, ‘di ba? Hindi naman na ako teeny bopper or in my 20s. Mapapaisip ka na rin siyempre. It’s great to have that feeling na someone loves you, someone needs you, ‘di ba? Someone wants you in their life. ‘Yun ‘yung tsine-cherish ko,” lahad pa niya.
Pero baka wala pa raw kasal na maganap this year.
And then, may nagtanong kay Gerald kung alin ang mas gusto niya - kasal or baby with Grace?
Walang kapuknat-puknat na sinabi ni Gerald ang “Anak.”
G na G na rin kaya si Grace sa wish ni Gerald na magka-baby sila?
Si Grace nga pala is working sa military sa US. Every two months ay nagkikita raw sila.
Either si Grace ang lilipad papuntang Pilipinas or si Gerald sa US.
Ani Gerald, “She’s very supportive. Uh, she always makes a point na ina-appreciate niya ang mga trabaho ko, mga nagaganap sa career ko and she always gives me ‘yung ano, affirmation.”
Uuwi si Grace at panonoorin ang concert niya.
“She will be here. She just came here last month, April. Babalik siya ng June,” say pa ni Gerald.
Anyway, ang Grateful ay written and directed by his manager na si Rommel Ramilo at produced ni Mhae Sarenas ng EchoJam.
