Sinuspinde ng Senado ang plenary sessions nito at on-site work ngayong linggo dahil sa naitalang 88 na aktibong kaso ng COVID-19 sa mga empleyado rito.
“Allowing the surge to simmer down. Too many positive employees. Secretariat and senator’s staff,” ani Senate President Vicente Sotto.
Sa kasalukuyan ay mayroong 88 active COVID-19 infections sa mga personnel habang 196 naman ang naka-home quarantine, ayon kay Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri.
“So medyo kulang ang personnel natin sa Senado. Our medical head suggested that we continue with the work holiday to allow the staff to recover,” ani Zubiri sa mga reporters sa isang Viber message.
Sinabi naman ni Sotto na ‘skeletal’ staff and members ng Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) lamang ang papayagan sa Senate building sa buong linggo.
Gayunman, maaari pa ring magpatawag ng sesyon ngayong linggo ang Senate president kung kinakailangan.
However, the Senate president can call for a resumption of the session this week if need be.
Sa isang advisory, ang Senate officers at employees ay inabisuhang extended ang work suspension mula Jan. 18 hanggang 23. Ipinag-utos naman ni Sotto ang ‘total closure’ ng Senado noong nakaraang linggo.
