Security checks sa NAIA, balak bawasan ng DOTr

Plano ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) na bawasan ang mga security checks na dinaraanan ng mga pasahero sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“What we plan to do is to reduce the [security] checks,” pahayag DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista sa isang interview ng CNN Philippines ngayong Martes.

Ayon kay Bautista, sa kasalukuyan ang mga pasahero ay sumasailalim sa apat na security checks, lalo na iyong may mga flights sa United States.

Aniya, ang DOTr katuwang ang US Transport Security Administration ay nagsasagawa na ng tests para mabawasan ang mga security checks.

“What we plan to do when we transfer the flight to Terminal 1 is to reduce this at least by one. In the meantime, we will not be able to reduce it by two. But the plan is to reduce it by one. If the TSA (Transport Security Administration) will be happy with the result of the test, we can reduce it to two,” sabi ni Bautista.

Nitong Sabado, inanunsiyo naman ng Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) ang mga terminal reassignments ng dalawang pangunahing local airlines na layong i-decongest ang NAIA terminals.

Simula Disyembre 1, ang Philippine Airlines (PAL) flights papunta at mula sa United States, Canada, Middle East, at Bali (Denpasar) ay ita-transfer sa NAIA Terminal 1 mula NAIA Terminal 2.

Gayunman, ang mga PAL flights patungo sa ibang international at domestic destinations ay mananatili sa NAIA Terminal 2.

Ang Air Asia flights papunta at mula Cebu at Caticlan ay ita-transfer din mula NAIA Terminal 4 sa NAIA Terminal 3 simula Disyembre 16.

“In Terminal 4, there are only like a little over 500 seats. When there is a delay of two or three flights, there’s really congestion,” saad ni Bautista.

“Terminal 1 has unused capacity. This will improve the experience of the passengers as Terminal 2 has been very congested,” dagdag ng opisyal.

Inilahad ni Bautista ang mga plano matapos ang naging ranking ng NAIA bilang third most stressful airport sa Asia at Oceania.

“[W]e take this as a challenge,” ani Bautista.
