Nanawagan ang mga grupo ng mga magbababoy kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na agarang kumilos laban sa pagbagsak ng presyo ng lokal na baboy at patuloy na pagdagsa ng imported pork.


Sa liham noong Oktubre 8, 2026, hiniling ng Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines Inc. (PPFPI), Philippine Pork Council Alliance Inc. at iba pang grupo ang mga hakbang upang maprotektahan ang lokal na industriya.


Anila, bumagsak sa P130 hanggang P140 kada kilo ang farmgate price ng baboy, habang nasa P180 hanggang P190 ang gastos sa produksyon. Tinatayang umaabot sa P250 milyon kada araw ang pagkalugi ng sektor, na maaaring lumobo sa P22.5 bilyon sa loob ng 90 araw.


Batay sa datos ng Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) na binanggit ng mga grupo, umabot sa 851 milyong kilo ang pork imports noong 2025 at maaaring tumaas sa 939 milyong kilo ngayong 2026.


Kabilang sa kanilang mga panukala ang pagtataas ng taripa sa imported pork sa 30 hanggang 40 porsiyento at pansamantalang paglilimita sa importasyon sa loob ng hanggang 200 araw.


Samantala, nanawagan din si AGAP Partylist Rep. Nicanor Briones sa Department of Agriculture (DA) at Bureau of Customs (BOC) na higpitan ang inspeksyon sa imported pork at imbestigahan ang posibleng undervaluation, maling deklarasyon at technical smuggling.


Giit nila, kailangang protektahan ang lokal na merkado upang hindi masayang ang P1.6-bilyong Swine Repopulation Program ng DA na naglalayong buhayin ang industriya matapos ang epekto ng African swine fever (ASF).
