Mas mabigat na parusa sa debate skippers, target ng Comelec

Magkakaroon ng pagpupulong ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa Miyerkules para talakayin ang posibleng dagdag at mas mabigat na parusa laban sa mga kandidato na hindi dadalo sa mga debate na kanilang inorganisa.


Sa isang radio interview, ipinahayag ni Comelec Commissioner George Garcia na nais ng poll body na mag- impose ng mas mabigat na mga penalties subalit wala pang batas hinggil sa pagsasagawa ng presidential at vice presidential debates.


“Sa Miyerkules, pag-uusapan pa namin ano pa ang pupuwede nating maipatupad na sanction na medyo mas mabigat na hindi magba-violate sa mga umiiral na batas natin at sa karapatan ng mga kandidato,” saad ni Garcia.


Sinabi ni Garcia na ang Comelec ay magpapataw ng mga parusa at maging disqualification kung mayroong isang batas na papayagan ito.


Dagdag pa ng opisyal na tinatrabaho na rin nila ang tungkol dito dahil sa mas maraming debate pa ang ioorganisa ng Comelec.


Nitong Linggo, nanawagan si vice presidential candidate Walden Bello sa Comelec para i-penalize sina presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at kanyang running mate na si Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte sa hindi pagpapakita ng mga ito sa mga debate na inorganisa ng poll body.


Sa ginanap na Comelec PiliPinas Debates 2022: The Turning Point para sa vice presidential aspirants, ang mga kandidato ay hiniling na magkomento tungkol sa kanilang expertise na maaari nilang ibahagi sa pangulo kapag nahalal na sa 2022 elections.


Tumangging sumagot dito si Bello at sa halip sinabi nitong naaasar siya dahil sa pag-absent ni Mayor Sara sa naturang debate. Gayundin, si Marcos na nag-skip naman sa presidential debate noong Sabado.


“Sara Duterte is not with us, we’re slashing one another for her benefit. I mean the Commission on Elections should do something about this. Commissioner, chair, maaari ba, [please] can you penalize these two people?” diin ni Bello.


“Marcos and Sara Duterte for not showing themselves up the Filipino people with the programs so that masuri ho ng Filipino people ‘yung kanilang record and programs nila,” sabi pa ni Bello.
