Isang malaking karangalan ang hatid ni John Lloyd Cruz sa bansa dahil siya ang nag-uwi ng Boccalino d’Oro prize” o Golden Jug Award for Best Actor at the 76th Locarno Film Festival (LFF) in Switzerland.
Nakamit ni Lloydie ang naturang prestihiyosong award dahil sa kanyang mahusay na pagganap sa obra ni Lav Diaz na Essential Truths of the Lake, the country's representative in the main competition of the festival.
Ang aktor mismo ang tumanggap ng award dahil dumalo siya sa festival kasama si Direk Lav, assistant director Hazel Orencio, producer Bianca Balbuena at co-star sa movie na si Shaina Magdayao.
Si Lloydie ang pangalawang Pilipino na nakatanggap ng nasabing parangal. Ang nauna sa kanya ay si Hazel Orencio na nagwaging Best Actress noong 2014 para sa Mula sa Kung Ano ang Noon (From What is Before), also helmed by Diaz.
Kaagad na nagpahayag ng pagbati kay Lloydie ang Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) headed by Tirso Cruz III.
“CONGRATULATIONS! John Lloyd Cruz wins the Boccalino d'Oro prize (Golden Jug Award) for Best Actor at the 76th Locarno Film Festival for his remarkable performance in Lav Diaz's Essential Truths of the Lake, the country's representative in the main competition of the festival.
“With this prize, Cruz becomes the second Filipino actor to have received such award after Hazel Orencio in 2014 for another Diaz's film Mula sa Kung Ano Ang Noon (From What is Before).
“Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairman and CEO Tirso Cruz III congratulates the actor for bringing honor to our country,” ang statement na inilabas ng FDCP sa kanilang Instagram.
Sa Instagram Story naman ni JLC ay makikita ang ilang mga kaganapan sa festival including the red-carpet event. May larawan din siya na hawak ang kanyang Golden Jug Award.
Ang Essential Truths of the Lake ang ika-anim na pelikula ni John Lloyd kay Direk Diaz.
Ang iba pa ay Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis (A Lullabye To A Sorrowful Mystery) in 2016, Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left) also in 2016, History of Ha in 2021 at Servando Magdamag na pinalitan ng title na A Tale of Filipino Violence in 2022.
