Hindi pinalagpas ng kampo ni newly-elected Bacolod Cong. Albee Benitez ang isinampang Republic Act 9262 o Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) ng misis na si Dominique “Nikki” Benitez.

Kumalat kasi kahapon sa social media ang sworn affidavit ng dating misis ng pulitiko na diumano ay biktima siya ng psychological abuse sa loob ng 21 years.

Sa nasabing affidavit, may ‘implied admission’ diumano si Cong. Albee na nagkaroon siya ng dalawang anak sa ibang babae at relasyon sa isang “Ivana Alawi” habang kasal pa sila ni Nikki at nakumpirma lang daw ito ng misis nang mag-file ng Petition for Declaration of Nullity of Marriage ang kongresista.

Pero ayon sa inilabas na official statement ni Cong. Albee through his lawyer na si Atty. Peter Sanchez, “The VAWC complaint hinges on allegations dating back as far as 21 years ago. Every property acquired during the marriage — including the multi-million peso residences in Forbes Park and Dasmariñas Village — was fully paid for by Mayor Benitez using his own resources, but titled in the name of the complainant, Dominique Lopez-Benitez.

“This also includes high-value assets such as condominium units, luxury vehicles, and a substantial amount of publicly listed shares, all of which were funded by Mayor Benitez but registered under her name.

“Despite a judicial dissolution of their property regime in 2004, Mayor Benitez continued to provide not just ordinary support but a high standard of living, shouldering personal, household, and even extended family expenses for more than two decades. This included the complainant’s travel, business ventures, staff, and credit card charges-even long after their separation.”

Base sa naturang pahayag, matagal na palang hiwalay ang mag-asawa at bilyon naman daw ang iniwan ni Cong. Albee kay Mrs. Benitez.

Samantala, pinalagan din ng kongresista ang pagdawit sa pangalan ni Ivana Alawi sa affidavit ni Mrs. Benitez.

Dagdag sa nilalaman ng pahayag, “It is equally unsettling that a third party has been unnecessarily dragged into this private matter. The mention of individuals unrelated to the merits of the case only serves to divert attention and inflame public sentiment in the complainant’s favor.

“Section 44 of R.A. 9262 explicitly mandates the confidentiality of all proceedings and parties involved. The unwarranted disclosure of identities and unverified claims constitutes a clear violation of this provision.”

Sinabi rin ng abogado ni Cong. Albee na, “Mayor Benitez remains fully cooperative with all legal processes and is confident that the evidence-financial records, property documents, and testimonies-will disprove these false and vindictive claims.”

Kasabay nito, may hiling din ang kampo ng kongresista, “We respectfully ask the public and the media to allow the legal system to take its course and to refrain from the unethical practice of sensationalizing this case.”

Umani ng iba’t ibang komento mula sa mga netizens ang isyung ito. Pero ang reaksiyon naman ng mga nakakakilala kay Cong. Albee, bakit ngayon lang nagrereklamo ang misis nito kung 21 yrs. na silang hiwalay at kung kelan lang nagsampa ng petisyon ang kongresista para maipawalang-bisa ang kanilang kasal?

ON the lighter side, nalibot namin ang Lipa City last Sunday sa imbitasyon ng kaibigang Joel Umali Peña na CEO ng Big Ben Complex sa Lipa, Batangas at Lipa City Tourism Council President.

Inimbitahan kami ni Joel para manood ng kanilang taunang Flores de Mayo na inorganisa ng Lipa City Community Affairs Office headed by City Administrator Ronnel Sarmiento at sa pag-alalay ng very dependable na si Ms. Aylene Acorda, Melany Aguila among others.

Siyempre, suportado ito ng kanilang alkalde na si Mayor Eric B. Africa na minsan na rin naming na-meet nu’ng nanood naman kami ng stage play sa San Sebastian Church sa Lipa.

Ang dami palang artistahin sa Lipa na naglabasan sa kanilang Flores de Mayo mula sa mga representatives ng higit 30 barangays at nagprusisyon suot ang kanilang mga bonggang gowns.

Nasa finale ang 1st Runner-up ng Ms. Lipa Tourism 2024 na si Gweyneth Padilla escorted by Ginoong Lipa Barako 2024 na si Earl Christian Lantin para i-represent ang Big Ben Complex na pagmamay-ari ni Joel Peña. Bongga, puwede niyang gawing love team ang dalawa dahil bagay na bagay! Hahaha!

Anyway, one day lang kami naglibot sa Lipa at hindi pa nga kami nakapunta sa bahay ni Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto (na ayaw naming istorbohin sa pamamahinga dahil Sunday nga ‘yun) pero nag-enjoy kami hindi lang dahil sa mga developed nang establishments na nakita namin kundi ang dami ring masasarap na kainan doon tulad ng Lucky Bird Resto near Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club na may pagka-sosyal pero worth the price.

Meron na rin palang Aristocrat sa Lipa kung saan kami nag-lunch at malapit lang ito sa Ijo Bakery sa Big Ben Complex na panalo naman at pinipilahan dahil sa kanilang croissant na inuwi pa nga namin bilang pasalubong.

Naka-attend din kami ng wedding sa St. Therese of the Child Jesus na ang reception ay ginawa sa Mountain Rock Resort na aakalain mong nasa Metro Manila ka lang.

At siyempre, dahil birthday ‘yun ni Padre Pio, pumunta rin kami sa Santo Tomas, Batangas para makapagdasal.

Ang bongga na talaga ng Batangas na may tourism tagline palang “It’s All Here, It’s All Here”, at for sure, sa pagbabalik ni Gov. Vi, mas bobongga pa ‘yan!
