22-ANYOS NA DENTISTANG SI SHYRLA, PAMBATO NG 'PINAS SA MISS SUPERMODEL SA INDIA

Kaliwa't kanan ang ginaganap na mga beauty pageants, mapa-local at international, and as we write this, nasa competition na ang kauna-unahang kandidata ng Miss Supermodel Philippines na si Shyrla Nuñez para lumaban sa Miss Supermodel Worldwide sa India.

Bago tumulak papuntang India si Shyrla ay nakausap namin siya sa send-off party na ibinigay sa kanya ng Miss Supermodel Philippines, sa pangunguna ng Project Director na si JJ Maghirang at National Director ng organization na si Mae Evelyn Maghirang sa Velvet Studio sa may Bicutan kamakailan.

Shyrla bested the other 14 finalists sa Miss Supermodel Philippines last month.

She's only 22 and a graduate of Dentistry sa University of the East. She came from a family of dentists at pati na ang boyfriend niya ay isa ring dentist.

"Before pageantry, I was always on duty. Cleaning lang, ganoon. Parang I see myself, I have an artistic side. So, ang nakikita ko rito is performing arts. Para kasing performance ang pageantry, doon ko nailalabas ang creative outlet ko. Meron din namang art sa dentistry, but it's here that I get to show who I really am. Mas nag-e-enjoy ako," pahayag niya.

During college days pa lang daw niya ay sumasali na siya sa mga beauty pageants ng school at itinanghal na Miss University of the East noong 2013.

"First time ko po 'yun. I was just 16 years old, freshman pa lang po ako noon. Tapos, sabi ng katabi ko, 'Sali ka sa pageant,' at pumayag naman ako. Pero, I have no idea kung paano po sumali, but at the same, I want to try challenges," nakangiti niyang sabi.

Tinanong namin si Shyrla kung may pressure ba na maging representative ng Philippines sa naturang beauty pageant, knowing na ang nanalo last year ay ang kauna-unahang Filipina to win the crown na si Alexandra Mae Rosales.

"Of course," diin niya. "Nu'ng una po, I was so intimidated. Kasi siyempre, back-to-back winning is very rare in pageantry. I think, four or five times?

"And then, naisip ko, like what I've said kanina, ang pina-practice ko is focusing on my journey. So, different po si Queen Alex. I'm also different. I'm just gonna do my best."

May mga ibinigay ba na tips sa kanya si Alexandra Mae?

"Marami po, like be on time. That's her favorite advice to all the girls. Kasi, uh, when you're in an organization, tinitingnan nila ang attitude mo. So, nu'ng nandoon po siya sa competition, palagi po siyang on time. She's always 30 minutes early than the call time. Tapos, all dressed-up na siya."

Marami raw advice sa kanya si Alexandra Mae.

"Pero, ang best advice niya po is parang it's all in the mind lang. Parang, this competition, it's just a very short period of your life. Sampung araw lang naman 'yan. So, might as well, galingan mo at tatagan mo ang loob mo."

Ano ang feeling being the first official Miss Supermodel Philippines candidate sa Miss Supermodel Worldwide?

"Well, it's such an honor to be the very first candidate and ang daming good reviews from the people. So, I'm very honored to be part of the Miss Supermodel Philippines and I can't wait to see the future of pageant, as well."

Gaano siya kahanda sa competition?

"Very much prepared. Pero, may mga days during the training na kinakabahan, nagpa-falter, naiiyak. Pero, right now, I’m feeling very excited talaga.

"I'm gonna get a chance na mag-travel and meet a lot of people. So, 'di ko na iniisip 'yung pressure. I'm just gonna enjoy the moment and give my best."

When asked naman na baka matulad siya sa ibang beauty queen na in a relationship bago sumali sa pageant, pero kapag nakuha ang korona ay kinakalasan na ang boyfriend, nag-promise siya sa amin na hinding-hindi raw niya gagawin 'yun.

Samantala, masayang ibinalita ni JJ na ang Pilipinas ang host sa Miss Supermodel Worldwide next year. But, for now, focus muna sila sa competition.

"Excited and medyo mas na-inspire rin kami, lalo na knowing all the girls, 'yung nag-compete, 'yung 15 finalists, very competitive. They all deserve to be there sa India. Parang mas motivated ako to do more, to do better," lahad ni JJ.
