Inaasahan na lagdaan para maging batas ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ang Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act sa Lunes, Oktubre 10.


Kapag pirmado na, ito ang kauna-unahang batas na nilagdaan ni Pangulong Marcos matapos maupo na sa puwesto noong Hunyo 30.


Layon ng nasabing bill na i-boost ang mga inisyatiba ng gobyerno laban sa mga scams na nangyayari sa pamamagitan ng text at online messages.


Sa ilalim ng naturang measure, “unsold SIM cards will only be activated upon registration with a Public Telecommunication Entity (PTE) — the telco companies and their representatives.”


Gayundin, ang mga dati nang SIM subscribers ay dapat na mag-register kasama ng kanilang PTE sa loob ng 180 araw ng effectivity ng batas. Sakaling bigong magparehistro sa loob ng itinakdang panahon ay awtomatikong magreresulta sa deactivation ng SIM service.


Sakop ng naturang batas ang parehong prepaid at postpaid SIM cards.


Noong nakaraang linggo, sinabi ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin na malamang na primahan ni Pangulong Marcos ang SIM Card registration measure upang maging batas habang wala itong aniya, senyales na i-veto ng Chief Executive.


Matatandaan noong Abril ngayong taon, nai-veto ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang SIM Card Registration Act dahil sa ito sa tinatawag na mandatory social media registration.


Samantala, ang naturang measure ay consolidation ng mga bills na aprub ng House of Representatives at ng Senate.


Sa House version ng bill, ang House Bill No. 14, ito ay sponsored ni Speaker Martin Romualdez kasama sina presidential son Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos at Tingog party-list Representatives Yedda Marie Romualdez at Jude Acidre bilang co-authors.


Para sa Senate version ng bill, ang Senate Bill No. 1310, ito ay sponsored nina Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri, Grace Poe, Win Gatchalian, Joel Villanueva, Ronald Dela Rosa, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Jinggoy Ejercito, Cynthia Villar, Nancy Binay, Christopher Lawrence Go, Francis Tolentino, Imee Marcos, Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr., at Pia Cayetano.


Ang ceremonial signing ay gaganapin sa Ceremonial Hall sa Malacañang na dadaluhan ng mga mambabatas mula sa parehong House at Senate.
