Agad na magko-convene ang Senado bilang impeachment court sa mismong susunod na araw kapag umakyat na sa Senado ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

Ginawa ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III ang reaksyon sa naging paglilinaw kaugnay sa terminong “forthwith,” na binanggit sa Article 11, Section 3(4) ng 1987 Constitution na nangangahulugang dapat isagawa ng Senado ang impeachment trial “within a reasonable time,” at hindi kinakailangang agad-agad, taliwas sa iginiit ng isang petitioner.

“I think the Supreme Court decision is based on the petition. Hindi naman sumasaklaw ‘yung decision na ‘yan sa trabaho ng Senado. Does not have anything to do with the work of the Senate. We are co-equal of branch. That’s why tama ‘yung decision nila, pero as far as that petition that was filed to them is concerned, not on the way the Senate is conducting itself,” paliwanag ni Sotto sa ambush interview. 

“And in this case, if ever we receive the articles of impeachment, we will act on it forthwith. Sa akin ang forthwith, [means] the following day,” patuloy ni Sotto. 

Samantala, tiniyak din ni Sotto na may sapat na pondo ang Senado mula noong nakaraang taon upang mag-convene ng bilang impeachment court.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Sen. Ping Lacson na may mahigit P27.5 milyon para sa naudlot na paglilitis noong nakaraang taon, kung saan maliit na bahagi lamang ang nagamit para sa mga toga ng mga senador.
