Nagpositibo sa test ang apat na coastal areas sa Visayas at Mindanao para sa paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) o toxic red tide na lagpas sa regulatory limit, ayon sa Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).


Sa isang shellfish bulletin na may petsang September 2, sinabi ng BFAR na ang lahat ng uri ng shellfish at acetes o kilala sa tawag na alamang, na nakolekta mula sa mga sumusunod na lugar, ay hindi ligtas na kainin:


•Matarinao Bay sa Eastern Samar

•coastal waters ng Dauis at Tagbilaran City sa Bohol

•Dumanquillas Bay sa Zamboanga del Sur

•Lianga Bay sa Surigao del Sur


Subalit anang ahensiya, ang ibang pagkaing dagat o seafood maliban sa shellfish na nakolekta mula sa mga naturang lugar ay ligtas namang kainin.


“Fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking,” pahayag ng BFAR.


Samantala, ang mga indibidwal na tinamaan ng PSP ay makararanas ng mga sintomas gaya ng tingling of lips at tongue minutes matapos na makakain ng nakakalasong shellfish.
