Balik-Pelikula na ang hunk actor na si Tony Labrusca. Pasok ang psychological thriller movie niya titled What You Did (WYD) bilang isa sa mga ilalaban sa 2024 Sinag Maynila Film Festival.
Natagalan bago nakagawa muli ng movie project si Tony. Ang last film niya ay Hello Stranger: The Movie noong 2021.
Ayon sa direktor ng WYD na si Joan Lopez Flores, perfect si Tony sa role. Although, medyo nagkaproblema sila sa schedule ni Tony, kaya may ibang aktor pa silang kinonsidera for the film gaya ni Joshua Garcia.
But she took a chance raw na kay Tony finally ibigay ang lead role. Pinasubalian naman ito agad ni Tony.
“No, Direk took a chance on me. And honestly, I’m so grateful for it. I think how me and Direk got to working with each other or how I get to working with her production company, all happened so serendipitously.
“As if someone is pulling somewhere where it just had… it had to be kami ‘yung magkakatrabaho together. I mean, like people’s schedule wasn’t lining-up. Like, this person isn’t available and then, also me like, okay, wanting to. You know, I was kind of apprehensive.
“I was very apprehensive to take this role just because honestly, I was so scared that if I didn’t do a good job here, it would be just like wala. Everyone be like, ‘Tony is a terrible actor.’ I mean, that’s scary, you know. It’s such a nice story kasi and thank you for writing this,” mensahe ni Tony kay Direk Joan.
Inamin ni Tony na nag-audition siya for his role sa WYD.
“I would have to like self-tapes, yeah. So, tine-tape ko ang sarili ko and send it over. Hoping that Direk wasn’t cringing watching it. Hahaha!”
Panahon ng pandemic ang timeline ng WYD. And knows naman natin na ang daming mga pinagdaanan natin during pandemic especially sa ating mental health.
Paliwanag ni Toni, “It was nice kasi this movie kind of validates a lot of feelings that all of us experienced during the pandemic. So, you’ll get to see one of the characters there, you know, getting anxious not being able to leave the house. Or you will see na naiinip na ‘yung isa kasi hindi niya alam kung ano ‘yung nangyayari sa mundo. Kailan matatapos?
“And yes, I think lahat tayo, makaka-relate on that level like none of us knew when the pandemic was gonna end. All of us need to pay for our bills. Always needed to work. Uhm, the work landscape is changing. So, this film touches on some of those themes.
“And so it was nice. It was nice being able to act that out. 'Coz I was like, ‘Hey, this is what I was going through,’ you know. So yeah, it’s gonna be very relatable.”
Ayon naman kay Direk Joan, “It is about trying to survive conflict na malaki after you’ve been through a lot of trauma in your life. It’s just about an ordinary guy that people can relate to. Trying to land a job pero ang hirap-hirap.
“And then suddenly the pandemic happened. Parang whoops! Shooting down. Dreams again. So, everybody was having mental breakdowns.
“Ako, ang feeling ko, I was close to that time. So, I wrote the storyline. I pitched it to my very supportive business partner in our production company, si Ms. Josie (executive producer). And, she turned around from being just one of our partners in the company into an executive producer.
“And we got also Mr. Wilbert Tolentino, her co-producer, fully supported the project and funded it. Independently-produced po ito. Wala kaming studio backing. Buti nga may mga pumansin sa amin na mga artista like Tony. Kasi napakarami nang indie in-houses na may mga pangalan na. Kami, this is our first. This is my first-ever feature film. Uh, first-ever festival, you know, at least in the Philippines.”
Pero hindi pa man naipapalabas ang WYD ay may malaking proyekto agad na gagawin si Direk Joan. Ibinalita kasi ni Ms. Josie na kakapirma lang ni Direk Joan para sa gagawin niyang documentary film tungkol sa world boxing champions na sina Manny Pacquiao at Floyd Mayweather para sa Netflix.
“That’s our next project actually. We’re gonna do a reality series with Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. We’re gonna start shooting next week,” lahad ni Direk Joan Lopez Flores.
Anyway, ang iba pang cast members ng What You Did ay sina Mary Joy Apostol, Epy Quizon, Mercedes Cabral and Ana Abad Santos.
