Nasabat ng Department of Agriculture (DA) at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ang undocumented meat products o “hot meat” na nagkakahalaga ng P5.19 milyon sa Pasay City noong Setyembre 22 hanggang 23.
Ayon sa DA, nasa 11.5 metric tons ang mga nasabat na karne, kabilang ang Peking duck, whole pigeon, lamb, yellow chicken, black chicken at iba pang frozen meat products.
“Basically, those are Chinese delicacies. China isn't certified to sell those products to us here,” ani DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
Hindi accredited ng National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) ang mga ni-raid na establisimyento at hindi rin rehistrado sa mga concerned local government units bilang meat cold-storage warehouses o meat depots.
Dalawang Chinese ang inaresto dahil sa umano’y paglabag sa Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines, na nagbabawal sa pagbebenta, pagbiyahe o pamamahagi ng meat products na hindi dumaan sa kinakailangang inspeksyon.
Nagbabala ang DA na maaaring magdala ng sakit sa tao at mga hayop ang ilegal na imported meat products.
