Nagsampa ang Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ng kasong kriminal sa Department of Justice (DOJ) laban sa Sunwest, Inc., pangulo nitong si Aderma Angelie Descarga Alcazar, at treasurer na si Cesar Zacarias Buenaventura dahil sa umano'y P22.71 bilyong deficiency income tax liability.
Ayon sa BIR, lumitaw sa imbestigasyon na umano'y sadyang nag-under declare ng kita ang kumpanya, nag-claim ng hindi suportadong gastos at purchases, at maling nag-claim ng creditable withholding tax mula 2019 hanggang 2024.
Natuklasan din umano ng ahensya ang P6.29 bilyong hindi idineklarang kita, gayundin ang P36.63B unsupported purchases, P3.65B unsubstantiated expenses, at P291.12M unsupported tax credit claims.
Ang mga kaso ay isinampa sa ilalim ng Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) Program, habang ang DOJ ang magpapasya kung may sapat na batayan upang magsampa ng kaukulang kasong kriminal sa korte.
