Oriental Mindoro, malaria-free na — DOH

Idineklara na bilang malaria-free ang Oriental Mindoro, ayon sa Department of Health ngayong Huwebes.


“We wish to congratulate all of you for this milestone, but our work does not end here, as the gains achieved by the province must be maintained to prevent re-establishment of transmission through several strategies,” ani DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire sa isang statement.


Sinabi ng DOH na nakumpleto ng lalawigan ang mga kailangang requirements na nakasaad sa Department Circular No. 2021-0249, na nagbibigay ng guidelines para sa pagdedeklara ng mga probinsya bilang malaria-free.


Gayundin anang ahensiya, ang naturang deklarasyon sa lugar ay inirekomenda ng National Malaria Elimination and Control Technical Working Group.


Ayon sa World Health Organization (WHO), “Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.”


Batay sa WHO, noong 2021, may tinatayang 247 milyong kaso ng malaria na naitala sa buong mundo. Habang ang tinatayang bilang naman ng malaria deaths ng 619,000 ng nasabing taon.
