Isa pang batch ng mga persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) ang nakatakdang palayain ng Department of Justice (DOJ) at kanilang attached agencies sa Oktubre 25, ayon sa Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) ngayong Huwebes.


“Very optimistic tayo na sa October 25, Martes, makakapagpalaya muli ang Department of Justice, ang Public Attorney’s Office, BuCor (Bureau of Corrections), Board of Pardons [and Parole],” pahayag ni PAO Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta sa isang public briefing.


“Asahan niyo ‘yung mga matatanda na matagal nang nakakulong ay makakauwi na,” sabi ng PAO chief.


Ang mga inmates ay mapapalaya base sa ibinigay na parole ng Board of Pardons and Parole, kanilang good conduct time allowance, at iyong mga acquitted sa korte.


“Tuloy-tuloy din sa mga BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) jails ang pagpapalaya araw-araw. So talagang ngayon ay mas dadami ang mapapalaya at made-decongest natin ang mga kulungan,” ani Acosta.


Kaugnay nito, sinabi ni Acosta na nire-review na ng PAO ang kanilang rekomendasyon kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hinggil sa pag-grant ng clemency sa mahigit 300 inmates.


Samantala, ayon sa Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), mahigit sa 350 PDLs ang pinalaya na noong nakaraang buwan mula sa New Bilibid Prison (NBP), at iba pang bilangguan at penal farms.
