“Moreover, NCR (National Capital Region), Regions I, III, IV-A, V, VI, X, XII, and BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) showed case increases in the recent 3-4 weeks (December 17 to 31) or 1-2 weeks (January 1 to 13),” sabi ng DOH sa isang mensahe na ipinadala sa mga reporters.

“Rabies kills. Pets such as cats and dogs may carry rabies and infect their owners. Stray cats and dogs may likewise do so,” saad ng ahensya.

Binanggit din nito ang Republic Act No. 9482, o ang Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, na nag-uutos sa Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Animal Industry na maging pangunahing ahensya sa pagsugpo at paglipol ng rabies sa mga hayop at tao.

“The same law directs local government units (LGUs) to ensure that all dogs are properly immunized, and where there are stray dogs, to strictly enforce dog impounding activities,” sabi ng DOH.

“Prevention is always better than cure: all cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies, and all animal bites must be brought to medical attention immediately,” dagdag nito.
