Nagpatupad na ang Department of Agriculture (DA) ng isang temporary ban para sa importasyon ng mga poultry products na mula sa Japan, Hungary, at California dahil ito sa banta ng bird flu.
May petsang Nobyembre 23, ang DA Memorandum Orders (MO) No. 69, 70, at 71 ay nilagdaan ni DA Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban.
Base sa Memorandum Orders, ang importasyon ng domestic at wild birds at kanilang mga produkto kabilang na ang mga poultry meat, day-old chicks o mga sisiw, itlog, at semen na mula sa mga nabanggit na lugar ay pansamantalang ipinagbabawal.
Agad ding isinuspinde ng DA ang processing, evaluation ng aplikasyon at issuance ng Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) import clearance para sa nabanggit na mga commodities.
Gayunman, ayon sa DA, “Shipments from Japan and Hungary that are already in transit or have been loaded or accepted in ports before notice of the MO was given to Japanese and Hungarian authorities shall be allowed entry as long as the products were slaughtered or produced on or before October 12, 2022.”
Ang mga shipments naman na darating mula sa California na in transit o nai-load na o tinanggap na sa mga ports bago ang official communication ng MO sa mga US authorities ay papayagan din subalit dapat na ang mga produkto ay kinatay o produced na noon o bago ang Agosto 4.
Alinsunod sa DA Administrative Order 9 Section 10 Section VII. D, ayon sa DA, “Products which do not meet the conditions in the MO and were imported or brought to the Philippines shall be confiscated and destroyed, or returned to the country of origin, or shipped to a third country.”
Samantala, sinabi ng United Broilers Raisers Association (UBRA) na hindi naman maaapektuhan ang Pilipinas ng temporary ban dahil may sapat na suplay ng manok ang bansa hanggang sa Pasko.
