Ceasefire sa mga rebelde, ‘di idedeklara ngayong Kapaskuhan — AFP

Walang idedeklarang ceasefire para sa Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) ngayong panahon ng Kapaskuhan, ayon sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ngayong Martes.

“Ceasefire is ruled out because of leadership vacuum within the CPP after the neutralization of many of its top leaders,”pahayag ni AFP spokesperson Colonel Medel Aguilar sa GMA News sa isang mensahe.

“With only five active guerilla fronts, the insurgents’ capability to mount terrorism has been significantly degraded,” dagdag ni Aguilar.

Ginawa ni Aguilar ang pahayag nang tanungin siya kung kinokonsidera ng AFP na magdeklara ng isang suspension of military operations (SOMO) laban sa mga communist rebels.

“It is up to the AFP leadership to declare SOMO or not,” sabi ng opisyal.

Sinabi ni Aguilar sa mga reporters na ang pinakamaaaring magawa ng AFP ay magdeklara ng isang SOMO at mapanatili ang active defense, lalo na sa mga lugar kung saan ang mga insurgents ay mahina na.

“We pray that the insurgents will also be allowed to go to their families and think about their future. We hope that come the New Year, their resolution will be to abandon armed struggle and all forms of violence that destroy human lives and property,” sabi ni Aguilar.
