90-anyos sa Belgium, tinamaan ng 2 COVID-19 variants, patay

Patay ang 90-anyos na ginang matapos tamaan ng dalawang variants ng COVID-19 na Alpha at Beta, ayon sa mga researchers sa Belgium.

Ayon sa ulat, hindi bakunado laban sa COVID-19 ang naturang ginang at dahil mag-isa lamang ay sumasailalim sa “at-home nursing care.” Isinugod umano sa OLV Hospital sa City of Aalst ang ginang at napag-alaman na positibo ito sa COVID-19.

Saad ni Molecular Biologist Anne Vankeerberghen ng OLV Hospital, "Both these variants were circulating in Belgium at the time, so it is likely that the lady was co-infected with different viruses from two different people. "Unfortunately, we don't know how she became infected."

Ayon naman sa virologist na si Professor of Molecular Oncology Lawrence Young ng University of Warwick, posibleng magkasabay na tamaan ng dalawang virus strain ang isang indibidwal.

Aniya pa, "This study does highlight the need for more studies to determine whether infection with multiple variants of concern affects the clinical course of COVID-19 and whether this in any way compromises the efficacy of vaccination.”
