704 centenarians, wala pa ring P100K cash gift – DSWD

Nasa tinatayang 700 centenarians ang naghihintay pa rin ng kanilang P100,000 cash gift mula sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).


Ayon kay DSWD Director for Program Management Bureau Maricel Deloria sa ginanap na House Special Committee on Senior Citizens organizational meeting ngayong Miyerkules, noong nakaraang taon ay mayroong humigit-kumulang 886 centenarians ang nasa cash gift waitlist.


“Kasama ngayon na binabayaran ng DSWD sa taong ito ‘yung mga na-waitlisted last year. Magkakaroon ito ng ripple effect for 2022... resulting to 704 waitlisted centenarian beneficiaries,” paliwanag ni Deloria.


Kabilang sa mga rehiyon na may pinakamaraming bilang ng waitlisted centenarians ang Ilocos na may 120 benepisyaryo, Western Visayas na may 116, at Central Visayas na may 110. Ang National Capital Region (NCR) naman ay mayroong 45 beneficiaries sa kanilang waiting list.


Sa ilalim ng batas, ang mga senior citizens na umabot sa edad na 100 ay entitled para sa P100,000 centennial gift at isang letter of felicitation mula sa pangulo ng Pilipinas, ito ay bilang pagkilala sa kanila habang nakapaloob dito, “congratulating the celebrant for his or her longevity.”


“The department [DSWD] has already submitted a request for additional funding to the DBM and we are now awaiting response,” saad ni Deloria.


Isa miyembro naman ng komite ang nagkwestiyon kung ang P100,000 ay maaaring ibigay ng installments simula marahil sa edad na 70.


Suhestiyon ni Deloria, dapat na ikonsidera ng mga members ng special committee ang isang “hiwalay” na batas hinggil dito.


“Dapat nating i-consider, maaari tayo sigurong magkaroon ng separate na batas, not necessarily calling it centenarian subsidy, mabigyan lang natin ng kakaibang benepisyo ‘yung mga Filipino citizens na talagang umaabot naman ng 100 years old, kasi it is a milestone,” sabi pa ni Deloria.


Ayon kay Special Committee Chairperson Rodolfo Ordanes na tatalakayin nila ang naturang usapin sa susunod na committee hearings.
