300 inmates, lumahok sa voter registration sa Manila City Jail – BJMP

Mahigit sa 300 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) sa Manila City Jail ang lumahok sa voter registration na isinagawa ng Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) ngayong Sabado ng umaga.

Ang voter registration na isinagawa sa male dormitory ng Manila City Jail ay para sa Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

“It is our duty, as a government agency, to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their circumstances, have a voice in the democratic process,” pahayag ni BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral.

“Our personnel in the BJMP are working diligently to ensure that PDL in our care are able to exercise their right to vote during the December polls,” dagdag ni Iral.

May kabuuang 66,244 PDLs na ang nagparehistro bilang botante hanggang ngayong Sabado, kung saan may 27,741 inmates na kinukonsiderang newly-registered voters.

Ayon sa BJMP, ang jail population ay umabot na sa 126,680 sa lahat ng kanilang 478 jail facilities sa buong bansa.

“We encourage all PDL to register and make their voices heard on election day,” sabi ni Iral.

Noong Disyembre 12, 2022 sinimulan ang voter registration para sa BSKE habang magtatapos ito ng Enero 31, 2023.

Una nang sinabi ni Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia na ipoproseso ng poll body ang registration applications ng mga first-time SK election voters gayundin ng mga regular voters.

Bukod sa registration, ang mga botante ay maaari ring mag-apply para sa transfer ng voter registration records, reactivation ng voting status, at correction o change of entries ng kanilang voter registration record.

Ang BSKE ay gaganapin dapat noong Disyembre 2022, subalit iniurong ito sa Oktubre 2023.
