Pagdating ng 2030…Bilang ng may dementia sa buong mundo, aakyat ng 78M

Mahigit 55 milyon indibiduwal ang nakararanas ng dementia sa buong mundo, isang sakit na nagdudulot na pagkawala ng memorya at alaala, ayon sa World Health Organization.


Ang kondisyong ito ay maaaring sanhi ng stroke, brain injury, o Alzheimer’s disease.


Dahil sa patuloy na pagdami ng kaso nito, inaasahang lolobo pa ang bilang ng mga mayroon ng sakit na ito hanggang 78 milyon pagdating ng 2030 at 139 milyon pagdating ng 2050, ayon sa report ng WHO.


Dagdag pa rito, isa lamang sa kada apat na bansa ang mayroong national policy na sumusuporta sa mga taong nakararanas ng dementia kasama ang pamilya nito.


"Dementia robs millions of people of their memories, independence and dignity, but it also robs the rest of us of the people we know and love," sabi ni Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general ng WHO.


"The world is failing people with dementia, and that hurts all of us," dagdag pa niya.


Samantala, maaari rin daw makaranas ng dementia ang mga nasa edad 65-anyos pababa na tinatawag na young-onset dementia.
