Ipinaalam ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) nitong Linggo na nakasabat sila ng P38.8-milyong halaga ng marijuana sa Manila International Container Port (MICP) mula sa Thailand.


Idineklara ang kargamento kumot, sapatos ng mga lalaki, at iba pang mga produkto. Sinabi ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) na nakatanggap sila ng impormasyon na ito ay naglalaman ng ilegal na droga, maling deklaradong mga item, pati na rin hindi deklarado.


“Initial x-ray scanning of the shipment last July 31 and August 1 resulted in the detection of suspected dried marijuana inside 78 boxes. This was further confirmed during the 100% physical examination last August 2, wherein a total of 99 pieces of heat-sealed packages were found to contain marijuana,” saad ni CIIS Director Verne Enciso.


Samantala, natukoy ang marijuana sa loob ng isang malaking kahon na may 27 pirasong heat-sealed plastic packages; isang king-sized box na may 40 pirasong heat-sealed plastic packages; at isang king-sized box na may 32 pirasong heat-sealed plastic packages.
