Malaking hamon ang kakaharapin ng mga estudyante at guro ngayong darating na pasukan sa gitna ng pandemya. Ito ang sinabi ni Department of Education (DepED) Secretary Leonor Briones nitong Lunes.
Sinabi ni Briones sa pulong kasama si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, “On the matter of these psychosocial problems which have emerged, so far among K-12 learners, one case has been documented where we can see the relation to COVID. They say the child committed suicide because of COVID. We believe, Mr. President, that big challenge for our people in government under the present psychosocial conditions are the children and the teachers — the general mental health issues."
Hinimok ni Briones ang DepEd na palakasin ang psychosocial support program sa pamamagitan ng pakikipag-ugnayan sa Psychological Association of the Philippines.
Nauna nang humingi ng tulong si Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra sa mga religious sectors matapos makatanggap ng ulat sa nakakaalarmang pagtaas ng bilang ng mga nagpapakamatay.
Maging ang National Center for Mental Health ay una na ring ibinalita ang tumataas na bilang ng mga nagpapakamatay ngayong panahon ng pandemya.
