P-Duterte sa ASEAN leaders: Walang kampihan sa US vs. China

Umapela si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga lider ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) na hangga’t maaari ay iwasan umanong pumanig o pumili sa pagitan ng United States at China na mali umanong istratehiya.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo na tinalakay ng Pangulo ang pagbabago ng regional landscape na kinasasangkutan ng China at US sa 35th Asean Plenary sa Bangkok, Thailand.

“We note that President Duterte likewise discussed the changing regional landscape which recognizes the rise of the dragon (China) in a world still dominated by a soaring eagle (United States),” ani Panelo.

“He called on ASEAN leaders not to choose — or be forced to choose — sides by pointing out what he calls a ‘strategic mistake’ committed by the past leaderships of the Philippines, which he his now rectifying through his independent foreign policy,” wika pa ng tagapagsalita ng Pangulo.

Una nang nanawagan si Pangulong Duterte sa ASEAN na magkaroon ng “self-restraint” sa paghahanap ng solusyon kaugnay sa isyu ng agawan ng teritoryo sa South China Sea.

Sinigurado rin ng Punong Ehekutibo ang kooperasyon ng Pilipinas, bilang ASEAN-China country coordinator, sa pagpapabilis ng matagal ng Code of Conduct (COC).
