HABANG ang economic hubs ng Clark at Subic ang magsisilbing main venues ng idaraos na 30th Southeast Asian Games simula sa Nob. 30, may sports din na idaraos sa Metro Manila.
Subalit, aayusin at pagagandahin pa ang makasaysayang Rizal Memorial Coliseum, ang venue kung saan idinaos ang ilang historical glory ng bansa ay bubuhayin ang mga makalumang pasilidad upang magsilbing pang-welcome ng Philippine Sports Commission sa mga bisitang dayuhang atleta sa unang pagkakataon.
Pondo mula sa Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) ang magre-restore ng mga ito, ayon kay PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, gagawin nila ito bilang Chief of Mission ng Team Philippines ng SEA Games.
“All government agencies are on the same track to making the SEA Games a successful hosting as directed by President Rodrigo Duterte,” ani Ramirez.
“The PSC is making sure our guests and the athletes will see the best side of the Philippines when they start to visit our venues. We have the various agencies providing us with support, from the Military and the Police, to the Department of Tourism (DoT), Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), the whole of the president’s Cabinet through Executive Sec. Salvador Medialdea, almost all government offices with stake in the project is being utilized by the President.”
Nakaligtaang ayusin mula nang mag-host ang bansa ng SEA Games noong 2005 kung saan nag-overall champion ang Pilipinas sa biennial meet na ito. Sa tulong Pagcor na si Chairperson Andrea Domingo, ang nagbigay suporta sa Games sa pagpondo ng aayusing Philsports Arena sa Pasig City at Rizal Memorial maging ang Ninoy Aquino Stadium sa Manila, ayon kay Ramirez.
Hindi lang pagre-repair ang gagawin sa Rizal Memorial kundi gagawan pa ito ng restoration at ibabalik ang orihinal na hitsura noong 1934 kung saan dito idinaos ang 1954 Asian Games at SEA Games ng tatlong sunod.
Pero bagong mga upuan ang gagawin base na rin sa international standards at fully air-conditioned. (MC)
