TATANGKAIN ng Gilas Pilipinas na makakuha ng malaking upset sa FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 sa kanilang pagharap sa Serbia ngayong gabi sa Foshan, China.Kakalabanin ng Gilas Pilipinas ang Serbia ng 7:30 p.m. sa Foshan International Sports and Cultural Arena. Inaasahang mahihirapan ang Gilas sa kanilang laro kontra sa Serbia na tumapos na pangalawa noong huling FIBA World Cup noong 2014. Kasama sa line-up ng Serbia ang mga NBA player na si Nikola Jokic at Bogdan Bogdanovic. Tinalo rin ng Serbia sa kanilang unang laro ng torneo ang Angola sa iskor na 105-59.
Masama ang pagsisimula ng Gilas Pilipinas sa torneo pagkaraang tambakan ng Italy, 108-62, noong Sabado ng gabi. Hirap ang Pilipinas na makakuha ng puntos pagkaraang bumuslo lamang ng tatlong tres sa buong laro.
Pumutok naman ang Italya sa kanilang pagbuslo ng 15 tres sa laro. Nanguna sa atake ng Italy si Luigi Datome at Amedeo Della Valle pagkaraang gumawa ng tig-17 points sa laro. Nagtala ng 16 points si Danilo Gallinari.
Sa Gilas naman ay tig-15 points ang itinala ni Andray Blatche at CJ Perez. Sila lang dalawa ang nagdala ng double figures sa laro ng Gilas. “Italy is really a good team. They have size at the guard position that we don’t have and they have the quickness in their bigs which we don’t have. It is really important in the international game for us to have that size and that quickness and to combine them. We knew we were coming into this game as the underdogs. We would have wanted to play it in a better way and even if we lose, we could have wanted to play better than we did,” wika ni Gilas Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao.
Ayon kay Guiao, napag-aralan ding mabuti ng Italy ang kanilang koponan. “I’m sure that they did their homework. We also got into early foul trouble with our turnovers and we couldn’t make our three-point shots. It’s a combination of all of those. It’s not just one reason why we lost this way. All the teams int the World Cup, they do their homework. We were just hoping that they’ll be a little confident, complacent, and spend more time with Serbia or other teams. But I’m sure they did their homework against us,” saad Guiao.
