SAN JUAN VS. NAGA, TAPATANG KAMPEONATO, ABANGAN SA CBA

MAGTATAPATAN na para sa kampeonato ng torneo sa inaugural season ng Community Basketball Association (CBA) Pilipinas Cup ang National Capital Region champion San Juan at ang Bicol titlist Naga para mag-unahan sa pagsungkit ng Founders Cup at P1-million cash prize sa Lunes. Sinabi ni CBA founding president Carlo Maceda, na ang winner-take- all encounter sa pagitan ng Knights Exile at Water Borne ay lalarga para sa pagtatapos ng tatlong buwan na community-based tournament na idinaraos sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa. “We expect a good fight between San Juan and Naga for the bragging rights to become the first-ever CBA national champion and the P1-million prize,” ayon kay Maceda nang magsalita sa 30th “Usapang Sports” sa Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) sa National Press Club sa Intramuros, Manila. “This is the product of all the hard work of the CBA and the men and women behind it, as well as the team owners, coaches and players and their respective LGUs and sponsors,” dagdag ni Maceda sa weekly sports forum ng Philippine Sports Commission, National Press Club at PAGCOR.

Ayon kay San Juan first assistant coach Yong Garcia, kumpiyansa ang Knights na mapagwawagian ang titulo sa championship game na magsisimula ng 5 p.m. sa San Juan gym. “In basketball, homecourt advantage is a big factor. Iba ‘yung maglalaro ka sa harap ng mga fans at taga-suporta mo,” ani Garcia, na kinatawan si head coach Randy Alcantara sa forum na live sa Facebook via Glitter Livestream.

Ayon naman kay San Juan team governor Chris Conwi, handa ang team kontra Naga sa harap ng inaasahang big home crowd. “We’re not taking any chances. We’re bringing back at least five players from our San Juan team which topped the recent MPBL Cup,” ani Conwi, na dumalo rin sa forum kasama si top player Jhonard Clarito. “Since the MBA days, San Juan has maintained a positive image in basketball. Laging nananalo. We did it in the MPBL. We’ll try to do it again in the CBA.” Nangako naman si Clarito, na minsan nang naglaro sa De Ocampo Memorial College sa NAASCU, na gagawin ang lahat upang bitbitin ang Knights sa kampeonato. “Sisikapin namin na mag-champion uli. Matagal na rin naman ang pinagsamahan ng team at tiwala kami sa coaching staff,” ani Clarito, na umaasang magkaroon ng magandang impresyon bago mag-aplay sa PBA Rookie Draft sa 2020. (MC)
