PORMAL na itinalaga ng mayorya ng mga miyembro ng International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Central Board si

bilang bagong FIBA Secretary General noong nakaraang Biyer­nes.

Nanunung­ku­lan bi­lang FIBA Director for Legal Services and General Counsel, si Zagklis ay kinu­ha ng FIBA noong 2016 mula sa siyam na taong pagiging external legal advisor.

Nagsimula ang kan­yang panunung­kulan bi­lang sec-gen noong-Disyembre 8. Ang 38-an­yos na Greek national ay aktibo sa basketball sa loob ng mahigit 20 taon. “I’m very pleased that we have chosen our fourth Secretary General from among our own management team. A true basketball person, Andreas knows very well our organization and he is the right person to lead FIBA following the strategy adop­ted by the FIBA Congress. We are all convinced that he will put all efforts in making basketball the most popular sports community in the world, FIBA’s vision,” wika ni FIBA President Horacio Muratore.

Si Zagklis ang pumalit kay dating Secretary General Patrick Baumann na sumakabilang buhay noong nakaraang Oktu­bre 13 sa Buenos Aires.

Tinanggap ni Zagklis ang kanyang under- and post-graduate degrees mula sa Law School of the University of Athens habang kinum­­pleto niya ang postgraduate program sa Olympic Studies sa International Olympic Academy. Nagtapos din sya ng Leadership in Corporate Counsel program sa Har­vard Law School (USA).

Bilang isang propes­yunal, si Zagklis ay tuma­yong adviser ng mga basketball players, coaches at clubs at naging assistant to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) sa tatlong Olympic Games (2004, 2006, 2008).

Maliban sa pagiging FIBA Legal Department chief , naging instrumental din sya sa pag-angat ng Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT). (VA)
