PUNISHING TOUR OF MATABUNGKAY SISIW KAY JUNIOR CYCLIST KROG

ISANG outstanding performance sa elite races ang unti-unti nang napapasakamay ni junior cyclist Rex Luis Krog ng Go-For-Gold Philippines. Ang most promising rider ngayon sa bansa ay naghari sa napakahirap na ruta ng Tour of Matabungkay kasunod si Go-For-Gold teammate Ean Cajucom na siyang nagbigay kay Krog ng tsansa sa four-stage race at tinahak ang superb finish.

Inangkin ni Krog, 18, ang overall classification title sa 7 oras, 1 minuto at 13.45 segundo kasunod ng runner-up na si Mark Ryan Mendoza (1:37) at third-placer si Albert Primero, na may layong 2:21 minuto na kasunod.

Nakapuwesto sa 4th place ang 16-anyos na si Cajucom, ng Go-For-Gold project director Ednalyn Calitis, may 2:45 minuto na mas mabagal sa kampeon na instrumento para sa pa­­nalo ni Krog.“We are really proud of the development of our young riders. They continue to do well and we hope that it continues with more races in their schedule,’’ ayon kay Go-For-Gold godfather Jeremy Go. Layunin ni Krog, na nakapag-uwi ng silver medal mula sa UCI Asian championships nitong unang bahagi ng taon mula sa 3-day Tour de Linggarjati sa West Java sa Oct. 25-27 ang sumabak sa challenging race sa Indonesia.

Nakapokus ang Go-For-Gold sa paghasa sa mga batang riders tulad nina Krog at Cajucom sa pakay ng Philippine cycling na magpadala ng rider sa 2020 Tokyo at 2024 Paris Olympics. ”Besides aiming to fulfill our dream to see a Filipino cyclist in the Olympics, our goal is to provide more opportunities for less fortunate young riders to flourish and improve their lives,’’ ani Hualda. Nalagay sa 4th stage si Cajucom, kapatid ng veteran rider John Mark Camingao ng out-and-back race sa Matabungkay para malagay siya sa 4th place overall. “I’m sharing this victory with Ean. With our solid teamwork, we were able to implement our race plan against some of the toughest riders in the sport,’’ ani Krog.

Nilampasan ni Cajucom si Efren Reyes, Myrson Basto at Mendoza sa sprint finish sa final stage ng Tour habang si Krog ay sumiguro na sa 6th place, halos 13 segundo sa likod ng lap winner. (MC)
