May 21-0 boto na sa Senado ang pagtatatag ng PHSS

Aprubado na sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ng Senado matapos makakuha ng 21-0 boto ang batas na naglalayong lumikha at magtatatag ng Philippine High School for Sports (PHSS). Base sa isinasaad ng Senate Bill (SB) 1086, o Philippine High School for Sports Act of 2019, magbibigay ito ng pagkakataon sa mga student-athletes na makapag-aral sa isang sports high school kung saan sila pagkakalooban ng full o partial scholarships ng pamahalaan.

Kapag naisabatas, isang specialized curriculum ang idi-develop ng Department of Education (DepEd) kasabay ng pag-develop ng kanilang athletic skills. “The end view of this legislation is to unleash the potential of young Filipinos who have shown early potential of excelling in sports for a sports-related career,” wika ni Senador Sherwin Gatchalian na siyang chairman ng Senate Committee on Education, Arts, and Culture at siyang nag-sponsor ng bill sa panayam dito ng GMA News.Sinabi rin ni Gatchalian na ang Philippine High School for Sports (PHSS) ay gagawing isang world-class educational at athletics facility na may international standards sa ilalim ng pamamahala ng DepEd.

Ang Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) sa New Clark City sa Capas, Tarlac ang siyang bahala sa pagtatayo ng mga gusali at silid-aralan, dormitoryo at iba pang mga sports facilities at amenities.Ayon naman kay Senate Committee on Sports chairman Senador Christopher “Bong” Go, mabibigyan ng nasabing batas ng pagkakataon ang isang mag-aaral na makatapos ng high school habang nag-i-excel sa kanyang sports. “With the (establishment) of the PHSS in very close proximity to world-class facilities, our student-athletes can enjoy a level of training which is at par with the best in the world,” sabi ni Go. “This type of training and education can catapult our student-athletes to illustrious careers in sports, whether as athletes, coaches, managers, or any other sports-related profession,” dagdag nito.
