KALIBRE NI SUPRA GM SO TATAPATAN NG NEXT GEN

KAYA pa ba ng Pilipinas na makapag-prodyus ng panibagong chess player na katapat ng kalibre ni Supra GM Wesley So?

Ayon kay Martin ‘Binky’ Gaticales, ang National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) director na sa suporta ng mga pribadong sektor, mas posibleng makadiskubre at makapag-develop ng isa pa muling ‘super’ GM na kikilalanin at magiging pinakamahusay sa buong mundo.

Upang makamit ito, magtatatag sila ng isang event na ang pangunahing layunin ay humanap ng susunod na Pinoy chess prodigy sa susunod na limang taon.

“I think that, with Wesley So migrating in the US, it’s about time that we must discover young chess players who can follow Wesley’s footsteps,” aniya sa sportswriters ng Usapang Sports session sa Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS).

“As of now, may mga kinakausap na tayong possible sponsors which we will tap to fund the tournament. I think it’s just right that we approach people from the private sector at huwag lang tayong basta umasa sa gobyerno,” aniya at idinagdag na ang paghahanda ng next super GM ay hindi lamang sa Metro manila kun’di, maging sa iba pang mga probinsiya. “This is going to be a genuine grassroots program, because we intend to search for chess talents even in the farthest barangays of the country. Let us help one another. Instead of wasting the minds of the youth, let us help them become future leaders, not only of our country, but also of the corporate world.” (MC)
