MEN AT WOMEN 24 TEAM NG BVR ON TOUR, SINIMULAN NA

UMABOT sa kabuuang 24 na koponan, tig-12 sa women’s at men’s division ang maglalaban-laban sa darating na Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour Santa Fe Open ngayong weekend.

Ginanap ang torneo sa Beach Placid Resort na nasa Bantayan Island sa Cebu. Nagtipon ang mga best sand court players ng bansa na pinangunahan ng previous leg champions na sina Bea Tan at Dij Rodriguez na kumakatawan sa Negros at sina Ranran Abdilla at Jessie Lopez ng Air Force.

Makakatunggali nila ang mga koponang mula sa Petro Gazz, Cebu, Visayas, National University, Cebu, Bacolod, University of San Carlos, Southwestern University at Russia.

Inaasahan ng Cebu Provincial Sports Commission sa pamumuno ni commissioner Nimrod Quiñones na magiging matagumpay ang kanilang hosting ng BVR on Tour Santa Fe Open. “The CPSC continues to support BVR on Tour because volleyball is one of the most popular sports in Cebu. Beach volleyball is also a major crowd drawer and is in line with our thrust to push sports tourism,” pahayag ni Quiñones. “While the CPSC is working hard to develop our grassroots sports, these events featuring the elite athletes are part of the program as it gives our athletes an opportunity to see the best players up close and learn from them,” dagdag nito.

Ayon sa tournament format, ang 12 koponan ay hinati sa 4 na brackets at sasabak sa single round-robin affair. Ang top two teams sa bawat grupo ay uusad sa quarterfinals, kung saan ang mananalo ang maghaharap sa semifinals. Ang Finals at battle for third ay parehong tig-isa lamang laro o knockout. (VA)
