“‘Yung Youth Football League basically is the first youth football club association in the Philippines. It was founded in 2017. Ang primary objective namin is to promote youth club-based football. We have about 19 members right now and about 3,000 kids involved,” saad ni Atayde nang bumisita sa ‘Usapang Sports’ ng Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) sa National Press Club, Intramuros, Manila.

“We go at numbers – meron kaming U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U19, and this year we’re introducing U21, and we have girls of course U17,” dagdag pa niya sa weekly forum na inayudahan ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at napanood ng live via Facebook Glitter Livestream.

“Sa two years naming nagpapatakbo ng YFL, every year ilang bata ang nakakakuha ng scholarships sa schools –whether high school or college. Nagiging avenue pa kami for that purpose. Iyon ang ultimate objective eh. If you’re going to get the kids to play good football through the club system, and they have enough talent, they are picked up by the schools to be given free education,” saad pa ni Atayde. (MC)
