When the president signs the Expanded Maturity Act into law, magiging 105 days na ang maternity leave. This will extend by 45 more days the present maternity leave of 60 days.

During the bicameral committee, lawmakers added five more days to the original 100-day maternity bill. This is 45 days more than the previous 60 days.

The measure also removes the maternity leave cap of four pregnancies, so all pregnancies will be covered.

The bill also allows solo mothers to avail of an additional 15 days, allowing them a total of 120 days leave. It also doubles the allowed paternity leave to 14 days, from the current seven days. An option for additional 30 days of unpaid leave is also provided, while those who have a miscarriage will be granted 60 days leave.

The passage of the law would also guarantee our country’s adherence to the International Labor Organization (ILO) standard of 98 days of maternity leaves.

Mahalagang alalahanin na kung hindi aaksiyunan ng pangulo ang transmitted draft sa loob ng 30 araw mula nang matanggap niya ito, the bill would lapse into law.

As one of the authors of Expanded Maternity Leave Bill, it fills me with pride that I can contribute to the welfare of our mothers and their children.

It is important that the State provide our mothers and children an environment that is conducive to their health and well-being.
