3X3 GIRLS TOURNEY SA CEBU, GIGIBA SA INT’L FIBA RECORD?

NAGHIHINTAY ngayon ng bagong pagtala sa kasaysayan ang Pilipinas.

Sapagkat, muling nagtangkang gumiba ng record ang Chooks-to-Go/Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas 3x3 basketball sa Cebu noong weekend sa pakikiisa ng Sisters of Mary School Girlstown.

Sa idinaos na huling anim na yugto ng torneo, nabura ng Pilipinas ang International Basketball Federation (FIBA)-record para sa “most number of participants playing in a 3x3 game”.

Umabot sa 1,656 ang bilang ng mga kabataang babae ang lumahok at naglaro sa huling araw ng Under-18 tournament na ginanap sa Talisay City, Cebu. Kaya naman umabot sa kabuuang 3,036 na mga kabataan ang lumahok sa dalawang araw na event na bumura sa dating FIBA-record na 1,898. “When we were just in the planning stages of the event, we expected that we will break the record. But we did not expect that it would be by a wide margin,” pahayag ni Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas. “Girlstown made sure that the record will be owned by the country and the country should be forever grateful to them,” wika ng sports patron na nagbigay ng P100,000 donasyon sa Girlstown. Ang event ay idinaos sa kabuuang 36 na courts.

Nagpasalamat ang SBP sa Sister’s of Mary School sa pagtulong nilang maisakatuparan ang kanilang proyekto. “To be able to give back to those thousands of kids through my passion in basketball and to serve our country as well is more than fulFilling,” saad ni SBP coach Mark Solano. “Well for the SBP, all the ranking points will definitely help the federation’s 3x3 world ranking for us to fulfill our Olympic dream!”

“No words can describe ang nararamdaman namin ngayon lalo na kapag nakita ko ‘yung mga ngiti ng mga bata. Sobrang fulfilling,” ayon kay coach Ryan Betia, na nagkataong isang Cebuano.

Maghihintay na lamang ang Chooks-to-Go at SBP ng rekognisyon mula sa FIBA na kumikilala sa bagong record na kanilang naitala. “Now, we await FIBA 3X3. The SBP is currently in the process of sending over the proper documentation to FIBA’s offices. We are confident that we have done everything right and, more importantly, get the points to qualify for the Olympics,” ayon pa kay Mascariñas. “And we are proposing to make this a yearly event,” pagtatapos nito.
