Gen. Madrigal, next AFP chief-of-staff

SI Eastern Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr., ang napili ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte bilang susunod na pinuno ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Papalitan ni Madrigal si General Carlito Galvez na nakatakdang magretiro sa December 12 makaraang maabot ang mandatory age of retirement na 56.

Isinapubliko na rin ni Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana ang appointment paper ni Madrigal na may lagda ng pangulo.

Si Madrigal ay graduate ng Philippine Military Academy (PMA) at miyembro ng “Sandiwa” Class of 1985.

Siya rin ang pinaka-senior sa hanay ng mga military official na inirekomenda ng AFP Board of Generals bilang susunod na AFP Chief-of-Staff.

Bago ang kanyang assignment sa Eastmincom, si Madrigal ay naging commander din ng Southern Luzon Command, assistant division commander ng 10th Infantry Division at commander ng 4th Infantry Division ng Philippine Army.

Samantala, nakatakda umanong italaga ni P-Duterte si outgoing Gen. Galvez bilang bagong Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process kapalit ng nagbitiw na si Sec. Jesus Dureza.

Ani Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, inianunsiyo ni P-Duterte ang kanyang planong pagtatalaga kay Galvez sa bago nitong posisyon sa isinagawang 32nd Cabinet Meeting kamakalawa ng gabi sa Aguinaldo State Dining Room sa Malacañang.
