SUPERLIGA, FINALIST AT TOP 10 SA SPIA ASIA BEST WOMEN CATEGORY

ANG pagkakadagdag sa Top 10 ng SPIA Asia ang inaasahang magpapatatag sa Philippine Superliga (PSL), lalo na sa pagkakaroon nito ng grassroots sports program sa ilalim ng Collegiate Grand Slam (CGS) na magsisimula sa Nob. 3.

Ipinahatid ni PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico ang kanyang pasasalamat sa organizers ng SPIA Asia Awards and Conference, sa pagnomina sa PSL bilang isa sa10 finalists sa Best Women Sports Event Category sa Awards Night na idaraos sa Nob. 19 at 20 sa Bangkok. Ang PSL ang tanging finalist mula sa Pilipinas.

Nasa elite list ng finalists ng organizers ang 19th AFC Women’s Asian Cup ng Jordan, ang AFC Women’s Futsal Championship ng Thailand, ang Asian Women’s Hockey Championship Trophy ng South Korea at ang BNP Paribas WTA Finals ng Singapore. Isang malaking karangalan na maging bahagi ng elite list ang Superliga

“It is the Oscar Award of Sports in Asia,” ayon kay Juico, dating chairman ng Philippine Sports Commission at president ng Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association. “That’s why we’re so grateful to the organizers of the SPIA Asia Awards and Conference – MMC Sportz – for recognizing our hard work, dedication and sincere advocacy in boosting women’s volleyball in the Philippines.

Ang nominasyon sa prestihiyosong award ay nasa perpektong panahon at dapat palawigin pa ang kontribusyon sa grassroots volleyball ng CGS.

Itatampok ang 6 na team ng kolehiyo sa bansa tulad ng University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, University of the East, Far Eastern University, Colegio San Agustin at De La Salle-Dasmarinas, kung saan pakay ng CGS na bigyan ang mga batang players ng tsansa na lumaban sa mas matataas na antas ng laro at teknolohiya maging sa standards ng premier club league sa bansa.

Idinagdag pa ni Juico na iimplementa nila ang iba pang PSL rules at payagan ang college players na gamitin ang tablet at challenge system sa mga aktuwal na kompetisyon.

“Since we want to prepare these college players for what lies ahead in the PSL and the national team, we’re more than willing to give them valuable experiences on how it feels playing in the league. The earlier they start, the better for their respective volleyball careers.” (MC)
