Nagsagawa ng diplomatic protest ang Malaysia bilang pagtanggi nito sa territorial claims ng Pilipinas sa Sabah at Kalayaan Island Group.
Ayon sa ipinadalang “verbal note” ng Malaysian government kay United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, nasasaad na ang territorial claims ng Pilipinas sa Sabah ay “clearly has no basis under international law.
“The Permanent Mission of Malaysia wishes also to inform the Secretary-General that Malaysia has never recognized the Republic of the Philippines' claim to the Malaysian state of Sabah.”
