ISA si Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez sa mga umalma sa naging kontrobersiyal na paha­yag ni Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr. tungkol sa diumano’y illegal na pangunguha ng mga Chinese fishermen ng mga giant clams sa Scarborough Shoal.

Diumano, ibinebenta ng mga Chinese fishermen ang mga nakukuha ni­lang giant clams at bukod dito, nag­dudulot ng pagkasira ng mga coral reefs ang maramihang pagkuha nito.

Tweet ni Locsin, “I am not going down in history as a clam defender, okay? It’s a complaint; we’re looking into it; but these are just f*cking food; no one goes to war for clams (maybe Oysters of Locquemariaquer) but they just happen to be OUR food.

“They should pay for them like in fish market.”

Diretsahang sinagot ito ng Asia’s Songbird at sinabing, “Ang akala ko pa naman matalino ka.

“Ako ay simpleng tao lamang na may simpleng pag-iisip.

“These people are invading our territory, they are not just taking food, sinistral (read: sinisira) nila ang ating karagatan!!!!”

Tumugon ang DFA secretary at sinabing, “Pero ang problem ay hindi po territorio natin ‘yun. EEZ.”

Ayon sa Republic Act 9522 o ang Phi­lippine Baselines Law, ang Scarborough Shoal ay bahagi ng teritoryo ng Pilipinas.

Samantala, hati ang naging reaksiyon ng mga netizens sa naging sagot ni Regine kay DFA Sec. Locsin.

May mga kumokontra at sinasa­bing hindi “invasion” ang ginaga­wang pag­huli ng clams ng mga Chinese fishermen sa Scarborough.

Tweet ng netizen na may account name na @AntonioDujua kay Regine: “Tama ka. Simple lamang ang pag-iisip mo.

“Pls look up the meaning of ‘invasion’ in a dictionary if you have one.

“I am sure that even if you are already a has-been singer, you can still afford to buy a second-hand dictionary sa Recto Ave.”

Sinagot ito ni Regine at sinabing ang pangunguha ng mga giant clams ng Chinese fishermen sa bansa ay isang uri ng invasion.

Tweet ni Regine, “TRESPASS, ENCROACH, INFRINGE, INVADE mean to make inroads upon the property, territory, or rights of another.”

Dagdag pa ng singer, “ENCROACH suggests gradual or stealthy entrance upon another’s territory or usurpation of another’s rights or possessions.

“the encroaching settlers displacing the native peoples INFRINGE implies an encroachment clearly violating a right or prerogative. Infringing a copyright INVADE.”

“INVADE implies a hostile and injurious entry into the territory or sphere of another. Accused of invading their privacy.”

May ilang netizens din ang nagbigay ng malisyo­song kahulugan sa naging pahayag ng Asia’s Songbird.

Tweet ng netizen na may username na @garet­tin­­shadow: “Queen Regine Velasquez should have protested back then when it might have made a difference. But @reginevalcasid kept quiet. But now 7 years after she suddenly reacts. Kasi may bagong palabas. At kapag nag-flop ang pa­labas. Due for retirement na siya”
