Official Announcement: Olympics postponed na

Pinal nang nagkasundo sina Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach na i-postpone na nang tuluyan ang Olympics at idaos na lamang ito sa 2021.

Patung-patong nang pressure ang natatanggap ng IOC na huwag nang idaos sa Hulyo 24 ang Games na magtatapos ng Agosto 9 sa gitna ng coronavirus outbreak.

Mananatili pa ring Tokyo 2020 Olympics ang magiging logo nito kahit idaos pa sa susunod na taon. “The IOC president and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games... must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community,” ayon sa statement ng IOC at Tokyo 2020 organizing committee.

Kanselado na rin ang pagpapasa ng Olympic torch. “Therefore, it was agreed that the Olympic flame will stay in Japan.”

Isang malaking dahilan din bukod sa COVID-19 outbreak ay ang hindi nakapag-eensayo ang mga atleta dahil sa lockdown at apektado ng community quarantine ang mga ito.
