CONTINENTAL CYCLING TEAM,BINUO NG GO-FOR-GOLD PARA SA OLYMPIAD

BINUO na ng Team Go-For-Gold ang continental cycling team upang magkaroon ng tsansa na makapagpadala ng Filipino cyclist sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Ang paglarga sa continental system ay saktong timing para sa Go-For-Gold matapos na kupkupin ang best riders sa international arena at nanatiling hindi natitinag sa podium ang cyclist sa ilang local at overseas races sa buong taon.

“I believe it’s the next logical step in order to improve our cyclists,’’ ayon kay Go-For- Gold godfather Jeremy Go. “This will allow us access to bigger competitions, which we can use to gauge our performance.’’

Ang mga Go-For-Gold riders na sina Jonel Carcueva, Ronnel Hualda, Jay Lampawog, Daniel Carino, Boots Ryan Cayubit at Rex Luis Krog ay nakatakdang sumabak sa mas malalaking torneo na sisimulan saTour de Indonesia sa Enero, 2019.

Babanat din sina Ismael Grospe Jr., Ronnilan Quita, Elmer Navarro, Jericho Jay Lucero at Joshua Bonifacio bilang paghahanda ng team sa 2019 calendar of competition kasama na ang makasabog-bagang UCI 2.1 category races.

Sinabi ni Go-For-Gold project director Ednalyn Hualda, ang hakbang tungo sa continental races ay kinakailangan hindi lamang sa pagpapahusay ng team, kundi ang dagdag puntos na rin sa riders sa UCI at makatuntong sa qualifying ng 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Binanggit pa ni Hualda na humahanap sila ng 10 international races kada taon para sa Go-For-Gold rider na lumaban sa may 7 karera.“We have been trying to get more races for them para tuloy-tuloy ang development ng mga riders. It will also help them earn more points in their bid for Tokyo 2020,’’ ani Hualda.

Ang five-stage Tour de Indonesia na kinategorya bilang UCI 2.1 race ay halos mayroon na sa parehong antas ng challenge sa Tour de Langkawi sa Malaysia.

Kamakailan, nagtapos si Carcueva sa seventh overall sa individual general classification ng Tour de Singkarak, sa UCI 2.2 race sa Indonesia kamakailan habang sina Grospe at Quita ay hindi naman malayo sa likod ng GC makaraan ang eight stages. “The results of the Tour de Singkarak showed that we are capable of going head to head with the continental teams.
