Magsayo itataya 5 straight kontra Cortes sa Las Vegas

Itataya ni dating World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo ang kanyang five-fight winning streak at lumapit sa puwestuhan sa world rankings kontra unbeaten Mexican-American Andres Cortes sa 10-round lightweight showdown sa Setyembre 12 sa T-Mobile Arena sa Las Vegas, Nevada sa Amerika.

Sasailalim ang naturang tapatan sa undercard bout sa world title fight sa pagitan nina reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Ryan “KingRy” Garcia at British challenger Conor “The Destroyer” Benn sa 12-round main event.

Ito ang ikalawang sabak ng 31-anyos na tubong Tagbilaran City sa Zuffa Boxing Promotions matapos na pumirma ng kontrata, kung saan naipangakong sasabak sa tatlong laban kada taon, kasunod ng matagumpay na comeback kontra dating Irish champion na si Feargal McCory sa pamamagitan ng fifth-round technical knockout sa 10-round lightweight battle nitong Abril 5 sa Meta Apex sa Las Vegas.

“I’ve waited for a night like this my whole career. I signed with Zuffa to be on the biggest shows,” pahayag ni Magsayo. “Andres Cortes called me out, and I answered. He won’t have his ‘0’ after I get done with him.”

Huling beses sumabak sa world title fight si Magsayo kontra Brandon Figueroa para sa WBC interim featherweight belt, na kanyang nabitawan laban kay Rey Vargas sa split decision noong Hulyo 9, 2022 sa Alamodome, Texas.

Huling beses namang sumagupa si Cortes ngayong taon laban kay Erdison Garcia na nagtapos sa 10 round unanimous decision sa pareho ring card kasama si Magsayo sa Meta Apex.

“This is my opportunity to show the world what I can do. I’m going to destroy Mark Magsayo on September 12,” wika ni Cortes. “Growing up in the gyms in Las Vegas, I dreamed of fighting on a platform like this in front of my people. The time has come.”

May laban si Pacquiao sa huling bahagi ng taon

Nananatiling bukas sa posibilidad na magkaroon ng laban ngayong taon si 8th-division World champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao bagamat naantala ang inaabangang bigtime rematch kontra American boxing legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. na nakatakda dapat sa Setyembre 2026 sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

May namumuong plano na laban para sa 47-anyos na Filipino boxing legend at hinahanapan ng makakatunggali ng kanyang kampo na itatakda sa huling quarter ngayong taon, bago tumulak sa laban kay Mayweather sa Enero 2027. 

“We are looking for the right partners to do an exhibition, and then find boxers for a pro-fight, so there will be a lot of things coming up,” pahayag ni MP Promotions Chief Executive Officer Jaspreet “Jas” Mathur. “There is a plan to have a fight this year and to roll into next year for the big fight.”

Nagtapos ang naturang upakan sa kontrobersyal na majority draw, upang mapanatili ng Mexican-American ang kanyang titulo, na kalauna’y naagaw sa kanya ni Ryan “KingRy” Garcia sa bisa ng 12-round unanimous decision nitong Pebrero 21 sa T-Mobile Arena sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

“We have a lot of boxers that are possible candidates for a pro fight, yes, we do, we always have. I mean, even before the Floyd fight came about, I had somebody else that I wanted to put in a fight together who’s actually very close to me, another pro boxer who is champion right now,” wika ni Mathur, kung saan inamin nitong target nilang makalaban si World Boxing Association (WBA) titlist Rolando “Rolly” Romero, bago pa ito mailinya sa laban kay Teofimo Lopez sa darating na Agosto 22.

“I actually want to put the Rolly fight together; that was my plan from the beginning. I was even talking about it last year because I’m already with Manny, and Rolly is also with my company in Limitless. Rolly is also a dear good friend. So that’s a very direct situation,” dagdag ng 41-anyos na tubong New Delhi, India, na tinukoy ring posibilidad sana si Ryan Garcia.

“Everything is on the table; it’s on the table. All of these boxers are on the table, but our focus is on what is in front of us right now, and as I said, we want to break records.”

Mahaba-haba ang ginagawang preparasyon ni Olympian boxer at unbeaten Pinoy Charly “The King’s Warrior” Suarez kontra dating world champion Manuel “Tino” Avila para sa World Boxing Organization (WBO) International junior-lightweight title sa Hulyo 18 sa National Orange Show Event Center sa San Bernardino, California sa U.S. 

Nakatutok ang atensiyon ng 37-anyos na 2016 Summer Olympics campaigner mula Rio de Janeiro, Brazil kontra sa dating International Boxing Association (IBA) world featherweight titlist upang masiguro ang mandatory title fight laban kay unified super-featherweight titlist Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete sa Setyembre sa Saudi Arabia.

“Kailangan muna naming manalo dito, kaya naka-focus kami kay Avila muna,” pahayag ni head trainer Delfin Boholst sa panayam ng Bulgar Sports na nagsimulang sumailalim sa matinding ensayo ang 3-time SEA Games gold medalist ng mahigit sa dalawang buwan sa Las Vegas.
