“We are finally settling into our new HOME straight from the hospital after 6 rollercoaster weeks. I am so very grateful to all of you for your continued prayers and well wishes,” pahayag ni Kris.
Aniya, “The actions of two men shall remain unwritten because yesterday would have been the 66th birthday of my brother, my only Kuya, Benigno S. Aquino III.
“We once had a text message exchange during a time when he was being so brutally crucified on social media. I can remember so clearly his reply to me when I said: ‘You're being beaten up so badly. Defend yourself. It’s so unfair. This mess is not your fault. You don’t have to be the silent leader all the time because you have a legacy of many achievements to protect.’”
Pinasalamatan din ni Kris ang kanyang mga doktor, kabilang ang kanyang ex-boyfriend na si Dr. Mike Padlan.
“Thank you to the Rheumatology Dept. Head, Dr. Jomby Lichauco, my Dr. Buttercup, sometimes my Dr. Frenemy, but most often my Dr. Bestie, and the doctor personally taking care of me, one of the women I consider part of my circle of adopted beloved younger sisters, Dr. Geraldine Zamora; my cousin by marriage and, for me, the best in Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Nic Cruz; the doctor who has helped alleviate my migraines, which made my BP rise to 220/110 on December 25 and 26 and could have been the end of me, Dr. Henry Lu, the best in pain management, and his entire girl-powered team.
“My former boyfriend, who was literally one call away on December 25 and 26 and facilitated my confinement, Dr. Mike Padlan. I am forever indebted because without him, I would no longer be here. When I first opened up to Ogie Diaz about my doctor from Makati, I remember saying that with him, I felt safe. We didn’t work as a couple, but we do work as physician and patient because Dr. Mike knows me and how my body works. He has seen and continues to witness me at my weakest and instinctively knows which doctors I will get along with. In fact, he was the one who brought in my current cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Jeff Chua, who is superb in making sure he studies his patient’s limitations and knows how to work around them.
“Dr. Jonnel Lim, for monitoring me so closely that I stayed awake the entire time my PortaCath surgery was ongoing, and I felt the first slice. But feeling pain is better than having no oxygen flowing, agree? Lastly, the doctor who has the most difficult job, monitoring my ever-growing list of environmental, food, medicinal, and treatment allergies, which is now six pages long, is someone I love and trust like a younger sister, Dr. Katcee Canlas Estrella.
“I start my physical medical rehabilitation next week after the stitches in my PortaCath are removed.
“Please help me find a patient and knowledgeable Tai Chi teacher willing to do one-on-one classes, who will understand that I have many physical limitations.
“And a walking coach who can start me slowly. Several of the maintenance medicines I’m on cause dizziness and sometimes loss of balance. To be truthful, super-lampa na ‘ko. I cannot afford to have any fractured bones. Preferably someone who can easily catch me if and when matisod or mapatid ako, and won’t be bothered that we’ll have two nurses and a few others in front and behind to make sure I’m okay. Because sun exposure is a proven lupus flare trigger, walking is either indoors or at dusk. And lastly, because of my three DVTs, one in my left upper leg and bilateral blood clots in my upper right and left arms, plus a fourth I prefer not to discuss.
“But I feel it, do you? I’m slowly getting back the old say-it-like-it-is, ready-to-laugh, even-at-herself me.
“Once I get my medical clearance, I’ll be ready for my Kris Podcast. What makes it even more exciting is the team I may have the chance to work with. For now, that’s a big secret.
Kris Aquino is definitely back!
