Dating Comelec Comm. Kho, bagong Associate Justice ng SC

Itinalaga ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si retired Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Antonio Kho bilang isang Associate Justice ng Supreme Court, ito ang kinumpirma ni tribunal spokesman Brian Keith Hosaka ngayong Miyerkules.

Si Kho, kabilang din sina Comelec chairman Sheriff Abas at Commissioners Rowena Guanzon, ay nagretiro noong Pebrero 2.

“I confirm that the Supreme Court through the Office of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo received this afternoon the appointment papers of former Comelec Commissioner Antonio Kho, Jr. as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines,” ani Hosaka sa isang mensahe sa mga reporters.

Si Kho ay in-appoint para palitan si dating Associate Justice Rosmari Carandang na nagretiro naman noong Enero matapos ang 27-taon nitong pagsisilbi sa SC.

Naging fraternity brother naman si Kho ni Pangulong Rodrigo sa San Beda College ng Law-based Lex Talionis fraternity. Bago pa magsilbi sa Comelec, si Kho ay undersecretary na sa Department of Justice (DOJ).

9 kandidato para sa SC associate justice, inendorso ng JBC

Siyam na kandidato ang inendorso ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte para sa posisyon ng Supreme Court associate justice ngayong Biyernes.

Ang mga ito ay sina Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje Tang; Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Geraldine Faith Econg; Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Rafael Lagos; Court of Appeals Associate Justice Ramon Cruz; CA Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao; CA Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh; Court Administrator Midas Marquez; Deputy Court Administrator Raul Villanueva; at dating Ateneo de Manila University School of Law dean Sedfrey Candelaria.

Sa inisyal na report, may 15 indibidwal na nagnanais sa puwestong binakante ni Alexander Gesmundo matapos ang kanyang appointment bilang chief justice noong April.

Anim sa kanila ang nakibahagi sa public interviews na isinagawa ng JBC nito lamang buwan. Mayroon namang 90 araw si Pangulong Duterte na mag-appoint ng bagong SC justice simula nu'ng nabakante ang puwesto o hanggang July. Samantala, sinimulan na ng JBC ang pagtanggap ng mga aplikasyon para sa posisyon na babakantehin ni SC Associate Justice Edgardo delos Santos sa June 30 dahil sa kanyang kalusugan.
